Why Quality Inspection Before Shipment Pays for Itself
What a pre shipment inspection checks, when to book it, and why fixing a problem in China is far cheaper than in India.

Once cargo leaves the factory, every problem becomes more expensive. Rework in China is a conversation with the supplier. Rework in India is freight you have already paid, duty you cannot recover, and a customer waiting.
What an inspection actually checks
- Quantity against the packing list, carton by carton
- The product against the approved sample and the specification
- Workmanship, finish and function on a sampled number of units
- Labelling, barcodes and markings, which is where beauty and electronics orders most often fail
- Carton quality, packing and how it will survive the journey
Book it before the cargo is sealed
The useful moment is when production is finished and the goods are packed but not yet collected. Early enough that the factory can still fix what is found, late enough that what you are checking is the real order.
For a first order with a new supplier, an inspection during production is worth adding as well. It catches a systematic mistake at unit two hundred rather than unit twenty thousand.
Write the standard down first
An inspection is only as good as the standard it checks against. Agree in writing what the approved sample is, what counts as a defect, and what level of defects you will accept. Without that, an inspection becomes an opinion.
The economics are simple
An inspection costs a small fraction of a container. A rejected shipment costs the goods, the freight, the duty and the season. On repeat orders with a proven supplier you can reduce the frequency, but the first orders are exactly where the money is saved.
If you have production finishing in China, send us the supplier city and the packing list and we will coordinate the check before it moves.
